Cecconi's Flinders Lane An Italian Restaurant Triumph
Cecconi's is an icon of Melbourne dining and continues to evolve and thrill after decades. Like a fine wine it matures and displays nuances over time; never staying still. The World Loves Melbourne was invited to experience dinner at Cecconi's and we were once again highly impressed. Having dined here several times before, we knew it would be an excellent night, but each experience is different. Kudos to the team and chef Maurice Esposito who "nailed" the rustic Italian dishes and our selection was full of crowd pleasers.
The World Loves Melbourne was left in the capable hands of the wait staff. As soon as you arrive at Cecconi's you are greeted, shown to your table, and drinks orders are taken. We were served an Aperol Spritz, the perfect drink of Spring/Summer.
Elegant architecture and layout with an open kitchen area impresses. The floral arrangement hanging from the ceiling is stunning, as are the hanging meats, marble, sleek bar and elegant dining space (with top notch chairs and white tablecloths). You feel like you're somewhere special, with a dose of homeliness.
Fresh warm bread - something often lacking in Melbourne but Cecconi's delivers.
Not to mention a selection of marinated olives.
The Pinot Grigio came out early and we were grateful.
A tale of Italy on a plate; we enjoyed this platter of Calamari fritti in rice flour, Mushroom Arancini, and Seared Scallops on zucchini batons. Joyous dining.
View from above. Presentation is also first class.
Wait staff know their wines and the Italian wines at Cecconi's are perfectly matched with the food.
Authentic fresh Italian pasta. Yes it's comfort food, but the Pappardelle, beef and pork ragu, red wine and tomato is so much more. The ragu is a standout and the amount of meat in the dish is generous. You will crave every mouthful. The ragu sticks to the pasta perfectly. This is a stunning pasta dish, best washed down with some choice Chianti.
I can imagine this dish being a hit with corporates. Escape the office for pasta indulgence and a couple of glasses of perfectly matched wine. You may need to write off the afternoon and tell your PA to say to clients that you're "in a meeting".
Elegant dining. Cecconi's has a loyal following in Melbourne because it continually impresses and doesn't let you down. High standards are maintained and it keeps evolving. Corporates, couples, and foodies keep coming back.
Fish n Chips fine dining style, with lemon and tartare. John Dory excited with succulent meaty flesh.
Fish n Chips with Shoestring French fries and Steamed broccolini with garlic chips, olive oil and lemon. Soul food.
Nanny Goat Pinot Noir from Central Otago is a delicious wine, perfect with our fish dish (I don't subscribe to always having to have a white wine with fish).
Dessert was another chart topper with a Chef's selection of 3 desserts. The Dessert Tasting Plate is a great option, especially for 2-3 or even 4 people. My favourite was the Warm soft-centred chocolate pudding, fior di latte gelato.
Having enjoyed a magnificent evening we were blessed with the arrival of a De Bortoli Noble One Riesling with our dessert.
Cecconi's is a fine dining restaurant that treats you like one of the family, with a personal touch and a menu that excites. Flinders Lane boasts some top notch restaurants but none better than Cecconi's, a true Melbourne icon. We can attest to a consistency of high standards, but also to a restaurant that is ever evolving with new surprises. Highly recommended.
